H E Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chairperson of Qatar Museums (QM), announced yesterday that there will be a new 5 story facility inaugurated at QM. This facility, named as M7, will expand to 29,000 sqm and will be dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship. The focus for this facility is the fast growing fashion and design industry of Qatar, it is also a mark of the #QatarCreated celebration.
M7 has been solely founded to advance Qatari careers and creative industries. It is located aptly in the heart of Msheireb Downtown Doha where Qatar Foundation is working to revive the Doha’s historic core. The new facility is also expected to intrigue minds of all ages and backgrounds towards creativity through the various exhibitions, performances, films and public discussions among the many activities that will take place. This will also help Qataris from across the world to connect through one platform.
There is a very strong reason for why the name M7 has been given to this facility. The 7 represents the following guided goals of creation :
1. Accelerate : support the development of the country’s design community
2. Connect : link creative people and industry
3. Inspire : spark excitement through exhibitions
4. Complement : provide material support to designers
5. Equip : provide training, infrastructure, and mentoring
6. Promote : put design at the center of life in Msheireb Downtown Doha
7. Empower : promote sustainable business practices
As per further news, M7 will have its ground-floor inaugurated soon. The inauguration will be done with an exclusive exhibition of Azzedine Alaïa “Je suis couturier”, a tribute to the achievements of the renowned Tunisian-born French designer Azzedine Alaïa (1935-2017).
The event #QatarCreates is scheduled from March 24 to 27. It will include the presentation of the second annual Fashion Trust Arabia Prize. Along with it a benefit gala and fashion show will be hosted by Naomi Campbell at M7 and Msheireb’s central square, the Baraha.
