2021 starts with great news for all as the Saudi Arabia will reopen its borders and airspace to Qatar. This announcement came from the Kuwaiti foreign minister on Monday. The borders will open up after more than three years since Riyadh sealed both.
The announcement was made on the eve of prestigious six-nation Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) annual summit in the northwestern Saudi Arabian city of Al-Ula. At this summit the dispute was already a part of the main agenda.
“Based on (Kuwait’s ruler Amir) Sheikh Nawaf’s proposal, it was agreed to open the airspace and land and sea borders between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the State of Qatar, starting from this (Monday) evening,” Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Dr Ahmad Nasser al-Sabah said on state TV.
The borders were then deemed open from Monday night. Following which on Tuesday morning His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani left Doha to head to the sisterly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. HH went there along with his official delegation to chair the State of Qatar’s delegation participating in the 41st session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC), which will be held in Al-Ula governorate later Tuesday.
