Rain In Qatar

Let us know more about the safety guidelines issued by Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) for residents to follow on heavy rainfall.

  • Never touch electrical switches, plugs, or appliances with wet hands and ensure your body is completely dry before handling any electronics.
  • Stay far away from fallen power lines or tilted light poles during storms and immediately report any damage by calling the 991-emergency center.
  • Keep all electrical connections and outdoor sockets tightly covered or moved to higher ground to prevent water from causing a short circuit.
  • Do not attempt to fix any outdoor electrical faults yourself while it is raining and wait for a qualified technician to handle the repairs.
  • Disconnect non-essential electronic devices and sensitive equipment during heavy lightning to protect them from sudden power surges.
  • Avoid standing near water-filled areas that are close to electrical substations or distribution boxes as these can become electrified during flooding.
While the rain is beautiful, it also means we need to be careful. The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded everyone to slow down on the roads and keep a safe distance between cars, as the streets can become very slippery. If you hear thunder or see hail, it’s best to stay indoors. By Saturday, the sun is expected to return, so make sure to enjoy this “desert magic” while it lasts!
