Heatstroke Kills: Never Leave a Child in a Hot Car

Qatar’s Ministry of Interior has issued a stern warning against leaving children alone in cars, especially during the extreme heat. A moment of carelessness can have fatal consequences, as the temperature inside a car can rise to dangerous levels very quickly, even with the air conditioning on. This poses a severe risk of heatstroke, dehydration, and even death for children.

Key Guidelines for Child Safety
To prevent such tragic incidents, the ministry has provided a set of crucial guidelines for the public:

Lock All Doors: Always lock car doors, even when the vehicle is parked in your driveway. This prevents children from accidentally getting inside.

Keep Keys Away: Store car keys out of a child’s reach and never give them to a child to play with.

Activate Child Safety Locks: Use the “child safety lock” feature on car doors and teach children not to tamper with the controls or locks while inside.

Check Before You Leave: Before exiting the vehicle, always double-check the back seat to ensure no children are left behind. To help remember, place an essential item like your phone or wallet in the back seat with the child.

Emergency Protocol: If a child shows signs of excessive sweating, dehydration, or panic, move them to a cool place immediately and call 999 for medical assistance.

The ministry emphasized that ensuring a child’s safety is a shared responsibility and urged the public to take these warnings seriously to protect their children’s lives.
