OVER 85% POPULATION AGED ABOVE 40 FULLY VACCINATED

With the rapid expansion to the COVID-19 vaccination programme implemented by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), more than 85 percent of people over age of 40 years are fully vaccinated in the country.

According to data by the Ministry, 95.3% of people above age 40 have received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

People are considered fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving the second of two doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines which are administered in the country.

With the acceleration of the pace of National COVID-19 Vaccination Program, Qatar continues to fight the virus by implementing the largest vaccination campaign in its history for citizens and residents of the country, free of charge.

Qatar ranks among the top 10 countries in the world, compared to its population in vaccinating against COVID-19.

Since the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program began in December, 3,503,040 vaccine doses were administered. Also 1,906,753 people have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 1,596,287 have received both doses.

More than 66 percent of total population (16 years and above) of the country are fully vaccinated, while 78.4 percent have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

With evidence from around the world clearly showing that the risk of developing severe complications due to COVID-19 increases with age, elderly were prioritised in the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program.

As a result, 93.5 percent people over 60 years of age in Qatar are fully vaccinated and 98.6 percent have received at least one dose.

With the increase in number of people vaccinated and restrictions implemented by the Ministry, the number of people tested positive for COVID-19 has been controlled in the country.

Also research evidence in Qatar has showed that COVID-19 vaccines are offering high levels of protection against the virus and preventing people from becoming sick.
