Performing exceptionally well in the pandemic, Qatar has now contributed exceptionally in movie-making during this taxing year too. The country has got many films nominated in the Oscars leading to much excitement. Due to the pandemic, Oscars have been delayed from February 28 to April 25. Qatar will be represented in the prestigious awards in the Best International Film Category by 5 different films. These film have been funded by Doha Film Institute and anticipations are high for official announcement.
There are 5 films which form official entry to the Oscars Best International Feature Film Category. These films have received grant support through DFI and are on to represent the Arab World.
“You Will Die at Twenty” by Amjad Abu Alala is the first-ever entry of Sudan to the Oscars. For anyone who wants to watch it the movie is available on Netflix.
There is also the acclaimed movie “Gaza Mon Amour” by Twins Tarzan Abunasser and Arab Abunasser also received official entry.
Another convincing entry is “The Unknown Saint” by Alaa Eddine Aljem which is Morocco’s official entry to the Oscars supported by DFI. The film won many accolades and was featured at 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
“200 Meters” by Ameen Nayfeh is another scintillating entry by Jordan into this year’s Oscars. Throwing light on the life of a Palestinian man living on West Bank separated from his sick son, it is a heart-touching movie.
With so many excellent movie nominations it would be exciting to see the final nominations.
