IMMUNITY BOOSTING FOODS TO INCLUDE DURING IFTAR AND SUHUR

Ramadan Kareem to all our listeners and audience. As we all know that times are difficult right now and we practice social distancing, it becomes even more important for us to take care of our health. As has been known, better immunity gives us a better chance to fight the COVID-19 infection. At this essential time, it is important for all of us to eat healthy to boost our immunity. Please find below food that can be included during Suhur and Iftar to make sure that our immunity stays high during the Holy Month of Ramadan too :

  • Make sure to include fresh foods everyday which includes fruits, vegetables, legumes, lentils, whole grains (wheat, brown rice, oats, corn, quinoa), milk products and lean protein choices (egg, chicken, fish, meat). Include good protein choices for Iftar and Suhur.

  • It is advisable to not have only processed foods, packed foods loaded with salt and sugar

  • It becomes important to have fruits and vegetables rich in Vitamin B, C, E, A and D

  • Do make sure to replace fried foods and sugary desserts with healthy alternatives. Adapt healthy cooking methods like steam, poach, bake, sauté, stir-fry etc

  • Include bare amounts of salt for cooking. Instead add herbs, spices, lemon, garlic and other seasonings

  • Trim off the visible fat from the meat, skinless chicken is best.

  • Drink water and choose low fat dairy, coconut water, herbal teas and soups for hydration

  • Do try and stay active whenever possible at home by taking small walks, climbing stairs, doing stretches etc.

  • Do not stress during fasting hours and conserve energy.
