MORE UPDATES FROM AROUND QATAR REGARDING COVID-19

1. Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has inaugurated its annual Ramadan campaign for the year 1441 AH under the theme of ‘It is Better and Greater in Reward”. This new drive comprises a wide range of humanitarian operations in Qatar and 22 other countries, at a target value of 60 million Qatari Riyal, QRCS has said in a statement. There will be food baskets to be distributed in Qatar by QRCS Humanitarian Services They will be funding for 6,000 needy families and 1,500 workers. If anyone wants to apply for food assistance, they can call the hotline, 16002. Along with it 20,000 food baskets will be distributed to needy families through shopping centres. This time instead of Ramadan Iftar tents, ready-made meals will be handed over to workers at Maghreb time

 

2. In a commendable initiative, Vodafone Qatar has partnered with Dreama Orphan Care Centre and Protection and Social Rehabilitation Centre (Aman) to support their students’ remote learning using 5G technology, amid the coronavirus pandemic that has forced all students in Qatar to continue their education virtually. Along with being equipped with high-speed Internet by its GigaNet 5G network, the Vodafone Qatar has provided the students with laptops and tablets. Khames al-Naimi, chief human resources officer for Vodafone Qatar remarked, “As part of our corporate social responsibility, we are pleased to be able to bridge the technology gap for the children of Dreama and Aman.”

3. As per the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the general situation in the Industrial Area is quite satisfactory. Dedicated operations are conducted to ensure the needs of food, medical supplies and other essentials are being met. Lieutenant Colonel Ahmed Mohammad Al Ghanim, the security commander responsible for Industrial Area remarked, “The workers are our brothers and we seek to protect them with everything we have especially during this crisis. All medical conditions were taken into consideration particularly for the people who have diabetes or stress diseases and others as their health condition is monitored by healthcare professionals around the clock and the authorities are responding to their requirements.”

4. Qatar Charity has been instrumental is providing relief through food and hygiene supplies at this crucial time of curbing COVID-19. They have been co-operating with a number of embassies to distribute food parcels to communities residing in Qatar.

Along with this Qatar Charity, in co-operation with relevant government bodies, it is also distributing cultural bags for adults and gifts for children in quarantine.
QC has distributed 7,000 food parcels which have benefited about 28,000 people from various nationalities including Asian, Arab and African communities, after contacting around 20 embassies.
The embassies thanked and appreciated the support provided by Qatar Charity to their communities residing in Qatar, which confirms the depth and strength of the ties that link their countries with Qatar and its organisations that stand with their countries in the face of Covid-19, and provide assistance to them, especially in times of crisis.
